Primary Teacher’s Diploma

Overview of the Programme

The Primary Teachers’ Diploma (PTD) is a three year programme focusing on preparing teachers who will be competent in teaching at primary school level. The SANU PTD, with an inclusive focus, will give you an edge in the primary teaching profession in Swaziland & SADC regional. You will gain skills and experience in planning, teaching and observing the development and learning of children, and working in teams and with parents. The programme is structured into four subject areas being; languages, sciences, social sciences and applied science.

Admission Requirements

A minimum of six (6) passes at O’ level or equivalent, including English Language, four (4) of which must be credits in subjects taught in Primary Schools which are; Mathematics, SiSwati, History, geography, Physics, Chemistry, Physical Science, Combined Science, Integrated Science, Biology, human & Social Biology, Home Economics, Food & Nutrition, Fashion & Fabric, Agriculture, Religious Knowledge and English Literature. Other subjects will not be recognized.

Holders of a Primary Teachers’ Certificate or equivalent qualification may be eligible to apply for the PTD. These students will enter at year 2 of the Diploma Programme.

Duration

The PTD will be studied over a period of three (3) years, on a full-time basis.

Career Prospects  

Those who successfully complete the program can join the teaching profession at teachers in private and public primary schools. They can also further their studies by applying for a Bachelor of Education in primary teaching.
