BSc. Nursing & Midwifery

Overview of the Programme

The Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Midwifery is a four year programme of study designed to prepare competent, self-directed, Christ-like nurses and midwives who will be committed and compassionate to provide holistic care and quality health services to meet the changing needs of society. The programme nurtures and equips learners to take their leadership roles in nursing and midwifery in the private and health industries. The general nursing and midwifery core courses are designed to promote critical and in depth thinking of the learner to utilize research findings and effectively provide preventive, promote, curative, rehabilitative, counseling and maternal child health services. The learners are prepared for their real world by placing them in urban, semi-urban and rural communities for nursing and midwifery practice.

Admission Requirements

A minimum of six (6) credit passes, including English, Mathematics, two Sciences (Biology & Physical Science/Physics & Chemistry subjects) plus any other two subjects, obtained in not more than two sittings, in either 0 level, I.G.C.S.E., S.G.C.S.E., H.I.G.C.S.E and A level. Mature age students are also admitted depending on their results of mature age examination results.

Duration

This programme is studied over a four (4) year period or eight (8) semesters on a full-time basis.

Career Opportunities

Registeres Nurses work in a variety of public or private health care settings, academia/teaching, research, aid organisations, the defense forces and/or a combination of these areas. Midwives work in a variety of public or private health care settings, maternity and neonatal care settings, academia/teaching, research, rural and remote health, aid organisations, and/or a combination of these areas.

The dual qualification provides the opportunity to work as both a nurse and a midwife either independently or in tandem.
