FACULTY OF EDUCATION

The Faculty of Education was established in 1939 as the Nazarene Teacher Training College. In 2010 when SANU was established it was merged with the other colleges of the Church of the Nazarene and renamed to Faculty of Education. The Faculty is based in the Manzini Campus. Below are some of the programmes offered by the Faculty in the 2022- 2023 Academic Year.

PRIMARY TEACHERS’ DIPLOMA (PTD)

Overview of the Programme

The PTD programme is intended to give prospective primary school teachers the required competence in pedagogy, subject matter and supervised teaching practice to equip graduates for the teaching profession.

Admission Requirements 

  • Minimum four (4) credits & two (2) passes in subjects taught at primary school
  • Minimum 32 points
  • Certificate in Education or equivalent

Duration

The PTD is a three (3) year programme, studied, on a full-time basis.

EARLY CHILDHOOD CARE & DEVELOPMENT DIPLOMA (FOUNDATION PHASE) – ECCD FP

Overview of the Programme

The EECD FP is designed to equip graduates with skills and competencies required in nurturing growth and development of young children from the time they are born to the age of 6. It provides an introduction to the physical, social, emotional and intellectual development of children and appropriate practices in working with them. It is ideal for students looking for a rewarding career in the field of child care.

Admission Requirements

  • Minimum four (4) credits & two (2) passes
  • Minimum 32 points
  • Certificate in Early Childhood Care & Development or equivalent

Duration

The ECCD is a three (3) year programme, studied, on a full-time basis.

Career Opportunities

  • Teach from grade zero (0) to grade four (4) in public/private schools
  • Work in Child Care Centers.

BACHELOR OF EDUCATION IN LEADERSHIP & MANAGEMENT OF INCLUSIVE EDUCATION (B.Ed LMIE) – FULL-TIME (2 YEARS) & PART- TIME (3 YEARS)

Overview of the Programme

The B. Ed LMIE is a programme of study intended for Principals and Deputy Principals or prospective leaders who wish to embrace children with special needs as they lead schools. This programme seeks to produce administrators, competent in understanding special needs in the special and mainstream schools as well as understanding school finances.

Admission Requirements

  • Diploma/Degree in Education

Duration

This is a three (3) year programme of study delivered through a mixed mode, i.e. part-time and block. Part-time lectures run on Saturdays and block lectures run during the week when schools are closed.

BACHELOR OF EDUCATION IN SPECIAL & INCLUSIVE EDUCATION (B.ED. SIE) – FULL-TIME (2 YEARS) & PART- TIME (3 YEARS)

Overview of the Programme

The B.Ed. SIE programme raises awareness of special needs in learners and gives introductory scientific knowledge and skills on how to teach learners with different needs in the classroom. It seeks to produce teachers highly competent in all impairments.

The Faculty of Health Sciences (then Nazarene College of Nursing) traces its heritage to the Raleigh Fitkin Memorial Hospital founded by Dr David Hynd, the first superintendent in 1927. Training of nurses in Swaziland began at the Raleigh Fitkin Memorial Hospital in 1928. In 1956, a building of the Nazarene College of Nursing was constructed. This college was also merged with the other colleges of the Church of the Nazarene in 2010 when SANU was established and was renamed to Faculty of Health Sciences. The Faculty is in the Manzini Campus and offers the programmes below.

BACHELOR OF EDUCATION IN FRENCH (B.ED IN FRENCH) – full time (2years) part time (3 years)

Overview of the programme

The B.ED French program equips French teachers with linguistic, pedagogical skills, and professional practices required to perform their tasks effectively in the classroom, school, and wider community in the digital era.

Admission Requirements

  • Primary Teachers Diploma (PTD) or Secondary Teachers Diploma with French as a Specialization.
  • A minimum of A2 level with linguistics, pedagogical skills, awarded by the French Ministry of Education to DELF/DALF as prove of the French language skills of a non – French speaking candidate.

Duration

  • This is a three (3) year programme of study delivered through a mixed mode, i.e. part-time and block run.
  • Part – time lecturer’s runs on Saturdays and block run during the week when schools are closed.

Career opportunities

  • Teacher in private and public primary schools and high schools.

FACULTY OF HEALTH SCIENCES

DIPLOMA IN PHARMACY

Overview of the Programme

This programme is designed to give students a firm foundation in the areas of pharmaceutical sciences such as pharmacology, patient care and drug delivery systems and many more. Students will be trained to analyze problems and think of creative solutions through hands-on training, case studies and projects.

Admission Requirements

  • Minimum of five (5) credits, English, Maths, 2 Sciences
  • Minimum 32 points
  • Certificate in Pharmacy

Duration

The programme is studied over a three (3) year period or 6 semesters, on a fulltime basis

BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN NURSING & MIDWIFERY

Overview of the Programme

This programme is designed to prepare competent, self-directed, Christ-like nurses and midwives to provide holistic care and quality health services in urban, semi-urban and rural communities.

Admission Requirements

  • Minimum six (6) credits, English, Maths, 2 Sciences
  • Minimum 38 points
  • Diploma in General Nursing

Duration

This programme is studied over a four (4) year period or eight (8) semesters on a full-time basis.

Career Opportunities

  • Registered Nurse in public or private health care facilities

BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN MEDICAL LABORATORY SCIENCES

Overview of the Programme

This programme is designed to prepare Laboratory professionals to proficiently conduct testing in clinical laboratory. Its main focus is on development of competencies, professional attributes, ethical & compassionate, and Managerial skills.

Admission Requirements

  • Minimum six (6) credits, English, Maths, 2 Sciences
  • Minimum 36 points
  • Diploma in Medical Laboratory Sciences

Duration

This degree is studied over a period of four (4) years or 8 semesters on a full-time basis.

BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN NURSING ANAESTHESIA

Overview of the Programme

This programme is designed to equip students (already qualified and registered as Nurses) with advanced Anaesthesia knowledge, skills and competencies to provide high quality Anaesthesia services in public and private facilities. .

Admission Requirements

  • Diploma in general nursing or a Post Graduate Certificate in Midwifery Nursing Sciences or an equivalent
  • Two years working

Duration

This programme is done over a period of two (2) years or four (4) semesters on a full-time basis.

BACHELOR OF PHARMACY

Overview of the programme

This programme is designed to prepare competent, self-directed, Christ -like pharmacists to provide to provide holistic care and quality health services in urban, semi – urban and rural communities.

Admission requirement

  • A minimum of six (6) credits, including English, Maths, and 2 sciences.
  • A minimum of 36 points
  • A diploma in Pharmacy

Duration

  • This programme is studied over a four (4) year period or eight (8) semesters on a full time basis.

MASTER OF SCIENCE IN NURSING

Overview of the programme

The MScN Programme is designed to develop outstanding nurse educators and nurse leaders & managers who can contribute to and promote high quality nursing practices, education and leadership in the kingdom of Eswatini and beyond.

Admission Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Midwifery and or/;
  • Equivalent qualification in nursing that is deemed relevant by the Faculty.
  • Minimum 2 years nursing practice experience at the nursing degree level (post –graduation)

DURATION

The programme is studied over a Two (2) Year period or 4 semesters.

Career Opportunities

Includes being a lecturer at a university/ collage and holding managerial positions at hospitals, NGO or in government departments and it can lead to career advancement e.g. PhD studies.

FACULTY OF THEOLOGY

The Nazarene College of Theology (NCT) is the oldest theological training institution of the Church of the Nazarene in Africa. Its primary function has been and continues to be the preparation of persons for the Christian ministry. NCT is the direct result of the Church of the Nazarene missionary efforts in Africa by the Rev. H. Schmelzenbach. This work was begun in the northwest part of the Kingdom of Swaziland in 1910. From 1912 until 1931 the college was situated in the northwestern part of the country and in 1935 the campus was moved to a four-hundred acre site in Siteki in the eastern part of the Kingdom on the Lubombo Mountain range.

The Faculty houses two departments, which are; Department of Business Management and the Department of Theology.

DEPARTMENT OF BUSINESS MANAGEMENT & ENTREPRENEURSHIP

The Department of Business Management & Entrepreneurship currently offers a Diploma in Business Management & Entrepreneurship.

Diploma in Business Management & Entrepreneurship

Overview of the Programme

This programme is designed to equip students with business management and entrepreneurship skills.

Entry Requirements 

  • Minimum of four (4) credits & two (2) passes (English, Mathematics, two commercial subjects).
  • Or SANU’s Business Incubation Program certificate at 70% plus pass
  • Or any Business Qualification at Certificate Level from a recognized
  • Minimum 32 Points Duration

Three (3) years on a full-time basis.

DEPARTMENT OF THEOLOGY

Bachelor of Theology

Overview of the Programme

The program aims to produce competent theologians, who embody character and integrity; who will be prepared to meet the challenges of their time and make a positive difference in their communities. It tackles advanced theoretical and research aspects in theology and the biblical truth, and prepares ministers for service in the church by equipping them intellectually, socially and spiritually.

Admission Requirements

  • Six (6) credit passes

Diploma in Theology

Overview of the Programme

The program is designed to enrich students’ understanding of theological and biblical truth and affords them ability to effectively communicate the gospel truth with confidence and integrity. It also enables them to lead, teach, counsel, and preach with understanding the gospel of Jesus Christ. Lastly, it prepares students to face the challenge of theological debate and proper exegesis.

CERTIFICATE IN PASTORAL MINISTRY (CPM)

Overview of the Programme

This programme is designed for aspiring Ministers who have not completed high school. It will equip them with the foundations of Pastoral Ministry to nurture Christian maturity, ethical conduct and rich interpersonal relationships. Students will develop presentation skills by engaging in oral and written communication. During practicum, they will be exposed to various pastoral skills.

Admission Requirements

An applicant must:

  • Have a desire to study the Bible and Pastoral

Duration

The minimum duration for this programme is three (3) years of study on a full-time basis.

Added benefit for Theologians studying at SANU

As an added benefit, we equip theology students with entrepreneurial skills to enable our future Pastors to lead income generation projects in the churches and communities where they serve.

Application Dates

  • Applications will be open between the 06th of April 2023 to the 31st May 2023.

Application Fee

  • Qualifying students should first pay the application fee before filling the application form
  • This is because you will have to attach scanned proof of payment as you fill the form; otherwise it will not allow you to progress past that stage.
  • The application fee is E380.00 for SADC residents. Our currently is equivalent to South Africa Rand. Non-SADC

residents are required to pay USD 22.

Scholarship information 

  • The University does not offer scholarship currently.
  • Currently, the Government of Eswatini sponsors the following programs; Primary Teacher’s Diploma, Diploma in Business Management & Entrepreneurship, Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Sciences, Bachelor of Science in Nursing & Midwifery and Diploma in Pharmacy.
  • We have a growing number of students who pay for themselves or are paid for by private sponsors.
